Beam Cutting Presses
Introducing the Atom range of full width beam cutting presses, the advantage of such a machine is that larger dies can be used in comparisons to other types of presses. In theory where the beam cutting area is the same as the bed cutting area a perimeter die of that size can be used to cut.
When compared with travelling head presses and swing beam cutting presses, beam presses show a quicker cutting cycle. This is because the cutting beam or head does not need to be moved over the material.
Atom have manufactured a single hydraulic piston system, with this unlike many manufacturers using either 2 cylinders of 4 cylinders Atom use a single cylinder in the centre of the machine activating a series of levers and pivots to create the cutting motion and power.
This enables an accurate and uniform distribution of the cutting power across the cutting area between the beam and bed, so meaning greater quality and precision. For these reasons they are widely used when high cutting power is required, and/ or when large cutting tools are being used, in addition beam presses are also perfect for cutting multiple layers of material.
With models of beam presses ranging from 20 – 150tons Atom use three ways in which to control the depth of cutting, these can be applied to most types of beam presses:
- Pressure Setting
With this type of setting the machine operates on a pressure controlled system, this meaning that different height dies can be exchanged without the need to necessarily reset the machine - Stroke End Switch
A stroke end switch allows the beam to travel to the same position each time, so cutting dies of the same height can be interchanged without the need to stop and change the tool height setting - Mechanical Stops
Mechanical stops can be fitted to any machine with cutting power over 50 tons, the four stops can be adjusted to control the depth to which the beam can travel
All full width beam cutting presses are supplied with a mark of CE conformity.

Series 6 BP Beam Cutting Press
Employing all of the advantages of the series 6 the BP version is fitted with a cutting belt and a 'pinch & grab' clamp system. This enables the transportation and cutting of thick and multi-layer materials, both in roll and sheet form. With Atom's comprehensive and accurate nesting software up to 20 cutting cycles per minute is possible, completed using maximum speed against best possible yield.
All models in the BP series are equipped with mechanical stops, to ensure micrometric adjustment of the cutting depth.
Additional optional devices available are:
- Extension of the 'take off' unloading surface of approx. 900mm
- Cutting pad, moved by the rear clamp, this option is effective where deep penetration into the belt is required to cut the material, therefore making a cutting belt to expensive to use in such an application
- Electrically controlled die tool guides, this option allows the quick change of die as the guides are quickly moved to the width of the new die board, automatically centring if required
